The government fee for GST registration
Let’s clear up the biggest misconception first: for standard GST registration, the government charges no fee at all. Applying on the GST portal is free. So if someone quotes you a large amount and implies most of it is a "government charge", that isn’t accurate for a normal registration.
What you actually pay for is professional help — someone to prepare the application correctly, handle Aadhaar authentication, respond to any officer query, and get your GSTIN issued without rejections or delays.
What a professional fee should look like
A fair professional fee for standard GST registration is modest, because for a straightforward case it’s a well-defined piece of work. Our fee is a flat ₹499, with no government fee on top for standard registration — so for most applicants ₹499 is the whole cost.
The value isn’t just filling a form. It’s knowing which documents your specific business type needs, presenting the address and bank proof so they aren’t queried, and dealing with the department if a clarification is raised. Getting rejected and re-applying wastes far more than the fee.
Where hidden costs creep in
The registration itself is cheap. The costs that catch people out come later or on the side:
- Monthly return filing — the real recurring cost of being registered (ours is ₹499/month for GSTR-1 + GSTR-3B)
- Late fees from missing returns once you’re registered — entirely avoidable
- Padding: “extra” charges for a DSC, a current account letter, or “govt processing” that shouldn’t apply to a standard case
- Being registered when you didn’t need to be — taking on monthly filing you could have avoided
The honest way to think about it
Registration is a one-time, low cost. The decision that actually affects your wallet is whether you need to register at all, and who handles your monthly filing afterwards. We’ll tell you honestly if you don’t need GST yet — and if you do, the ₹499 registration plus ₹499/month filing is transparent, with any government dues always shown separately.
