GST Registration Amendment

Change your business details on the GST portal — correctly and without rejection.

When your business changes — a new address, an extra branch, a new partner, updated bank details — the GST portal must be updated through an amendment. Some changes are approved automatically; others (called core-field amendments) need officer approval and must be filed carefully to avoid rejection.

What a GST amendment is, and why keeping details current matters

Your GST registration is not a "file once and forget" document. The details on it — your address, the people who run the business, your bank account, your contact number, the goods and services you deal in — are what the department, your buyers and the e-way bill and e-invoice systems rely on. When any of these change in real life, the registration has to be amended to match, through form GST REG-14.

Leaving stale details on your GSTIN is not harmless. A wrong principal address can cause notices and failed physical verification; an old bank account can hold up a refund; a partner who has left but is still shown remains on record. Amending promptly keeps your registration clean and your compliance defensible.

Core-field vs non-core-field amendments

GST amendments fall into two buckets. Core-field amendments — the legal or trade name (without a change of PAN), the principal or additional place of business, and the addition or removal of partners, directors, trustees or other promoters — need a GST officer’s approval and can attract a clarification. Non-core-field amendments — most other details such as bank account, contact email and mobile, business activities and minor promoter details — are generally approved automatically on the portal.

Knowing which bucket your change falls into sets the right expectation on time and paperwork. We identify it up front and file with exactly the supporting proof that avoids a query.

Changing your principal place of business

A change of principal place of business is the most sensitive amendment, because the department may re-verify the premises. It needs fresh, consistent address proof — ownership proof, or a rent agreement plus the owner’s utility bill, or a consent letter (NOC) where the premises are used with permission — and the names and address must line up exactly. We prepare this the way officers expect, so the amendment is approved rather than queried.

Adding an additional place of business (a new branch or godown)

When you open a second shop, a warehouse or a godown in the same state, you add it as an additional place of business rather than taking a new registration. This keeps everything under one GSTIN while letting you legally store and supply goods from the new location and generate e-way bills against it. We add it with the correct address proof and activity details.

Adding or removing a partner, director or authorised signatory

When someone joins or leaves the business, the promoter and authorised-signatory details must be amended — a core-field change needing approval and, usually, Aadhaar authentication of the new person. Getting this right matters because the authorised signatory is who can file and act on the GSTIN. We handle the addition or removal cleanly, including re-authentication where required.

Bank details, contact and business activities

Updating your bank account (important before any refund), your email and mobile, or the HSN/SAC list of goods and services you deal in are generally non-core amendments that go through quickly. They are simple, but worth doing promptly — an out-of-date bank account or contact number can quietly block a refund or a portal OTP when you least expect it.

Why amendments get rejected — and how we prevent it

Amendment queries almost always come from the same handful of issues: address proof whose name does not match, a rent agreement or NOC that is missing or unsigned, a promoter change without proper authorisation, or supporting documents that are unclear or inconsistent. Because we know exactly what the officer looks for, we assemble the amendment correctly the first time and, if a clarification is raised, draft the reply within the deadline.

How the process works

1

Tell us what changed

Share the detail you need to update and the supporting proof.

2

We identify the amendment type

Core-field changes (like principal address or promoters) need approval; non-core changes are near-instant. We handle both.

3

Filing

We file the amendment with the correct supporting documents.

4

Approval & confirmation

We track approval and send you the updated registration.

Timeline

Non-core amendments update almost immediately. Core-field amendments usually take up to about 15 working days subject to officer approval.

GST Amendment: your questions answered

Core-field changes — the legal/trade name (same PAN), the principal place of business, and adding or removing partners/directors/promoters — need approval. Contact details, bank account, business activities and most other fields update automatically as non-core amendments.
